Recycle or pay a fine

December 5, 2008

It this kind of nonsense that gets me going on one of my rants.

While neighboring counties encourage recycling, Gwinnett County’s new solid waste management ordinance puts teeth into it. The ordinance provides for a civil fine of $500 for violations, which includes those who fail to “source separate residential recovered materials.”

A Drunken Burl once said, “Man, if they[government] tell me to do something, I’ll go shit in their yard.”

Spider minus a leg sells for thousands

By Matt Bachl, ninemsn

A hand-drawn digital picture of a seven-legged spider which became the subject of a widespread viral email has reportedly sold for $15,000 on eBay.

The spider story begins with an email exchange between an Adelaide man and an unnamed utility company.

The man, David Thorne, owes the company $233.95.

Instead of paying up, Mr Thorne sends the company a picture of a seven-legged spider which he “values at $233.95″.

“[I] trust that this settles the matter,” he writes.

Click here to see how the exchange ends.

Mr Thorne, contacted by email, told ninemsn the exchange was legitimate and that the bill remains unpaid.

“I have changed [the company's representative's] last name and not mentioned the actual business name but apart from that the email correspondence is verbatim,” he said.

“And no, I have still not paid the bill.

“The part about me having no money is also true.”

A domain search of Mr Thorne’s website reveals it is based in South Australia.

Visit his website here.

After the exchange hit inboxes, the “original” drawing was put up for sale on eBay by a Swedish man.

“David Thorne was … kind enough to give the spider to me,” eBay user “Andreas” says.

“However, this spider is driving me nuts. Also he’s lacking a leg and thus is useless to me.”

The listing shows there were 18 bids for the drawing, with a starting price of $233.95, and that it was sold for US$10,000 ($15,000).

The buyer is now obliged to pay because they have entered a legal contract, according to eBay spokeswoman Sian Kennedy.

“What people decide what they want to pay for items is up to them … it’s a binding contract, even if it’s a picture of a seven-legged spider,” Ms Kennedy said.

“People can sell whatever they want on eBay and an email attachment is a physical product — it’s not offence, or illegal, so if they can make $15,000 from it, good luck to them.”

It would be highly unlikely the seller had registered separate accounts and bid on the item to increase its value, she said.

Election 2008: Offical Drunk Blog Thread

November 4, 2008

Tonight is the night, where I will be updating this thread with my thoughts on the election while drinking. So in reality, who the hell knows what random things will be delivered in this virtual medium. One thing I can guarantee is my already horrible grammar is going to get worse.

Disclaimer:
I am a Conservative with Libertarian leanings. I do not like either candidate. Let me repeat, I DO NOT LIKE EITHER CANDIDATE. I however, do not like the Democratic Party and will not vote with them. I fear a liberal one-party rule in Washington and so I did cast my vote for McCain. I do think, McCain will screw things up as well, just not as fast as an Obama administration.

Predictions:
With that said, I do predict an Obama victory. However, I do not expect a blow out as some pundits have predicted (and in reality, are rooting for). Below is my predictions of how things go.

Keep it tuned to this thread during the day. If there is any interesting news during the day and I have time to post during the day, I’ll post it here. When the official drinking begins, I will update the thread starting the drinking has begun :)

7:33 AM CST: I forgot to put down for what I am hopeful for out of this election. I do not think the Democrats will win a super majority in the Senate. They will improve their numbers but not reach the magic number of 60. I think they will hit 56 or 57 seats. I doubt though, that the Republicans will show any spine (they like to bend over and take it from the Democrats) to filibuster anything substantial. I would love for them to filibuster every federal court judge appointment in the same manner the Democrats did circa 2001-2005 until the Gang of 14 (Led by John McCain no less) reached a compromise. Make no mistake, in my view that is not winning brownie points in my book for McCain.

On another note, I didn’t mention above that McCain couldn’t win. I think there’s a chance. He could pull an upset in PA and maybe retain VA, but on paper, I do not see it happening.

12:31 PM: CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN!!!!

1:00 PM: Shamelessly added Google Adsense ads into this post :)

3:32 PM: Some Douchebaggery from the right:

4:21 PM: And it’s time to go home. Drinking will commence soon.

4:55 PM: I am now home and the drinking has commenced. First drink: double shot of jack with coke. Drudge’s headline says Obama is gonna win big based on exit polls. Exit polls also said Kerry would win in 2004 also.

5:01 PM: Obama Campaign says MN is closer than the polls indicated.

5:19 PM: The new bond movie looks pretty bad ass. I am almost done with the first drink and since it was an empty stomach I am feeling it already.

5:39 PM I hate these faux conservatives on Fox News.

5:48 PM: Next up: Dundee’s Wheat Beer

6:01PM: Fox predicts the Incumbent Governor (R) is projected to win. Possible good news that McCain will keep that bitch.

6:06 PM: The networks are putting a condition on the exit polls. They don’t want to look like dumbasses like they did 4 years ago, Megyn Kelly says ‘caveat’ kinda funny.

6:10 PM: Erin Burnett is on CNBC’s coverage. Yay. I think it’s Jim Cramer is kinda has the hots for her. He seems to always make some comment about how hot she is on his show. He puts it like hes joking but I think he is seriously means it.

6:11PM Lindsey Graham (R) won reelection is SC. He’s a douche monger.

6:22PM: Follow VA results here. I will blame you, James, if it goes blue :-P

6:26 PM: Double shot of jack and coke again.

6:32PM Mitch McConnel (R) has as slight lead in his senate reelection bid, but is still too close to call. He looks like a good grandpa who could tell us good stories about how he walked 6 miles in the snow barefooted. If he goes down tonight, shhhhhiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttt………..

6:37 PM Bc i am a douche….more google ads :-P

6:41 PM awwww….teh adds arentg working…FAIL

6:47 PM Erin Burnett on CNBC just called SC for McCain. The panel issued snide remarks “thats a shock” I kinda like panelist to have some personality. It makes it a littlle interesting except for when you disagree with one of them. Those sob’s are the ones u want to tar and feather.

6:57 PM CNBC is interviewing some British people at a pub. The owner just got interviewed and decided he would support based on a dish he made for each candidate. Currently McCain has a slide lead.

7:02 PM Current Electoral count 77-28 Obama. MO, NC, GA, PA, VA still to close to call. I just got a whiff of air freshener and I didnt spray anything….weird/

7:06 PM: I did my part and carried TN

7:09 pM McConnel keeps his seat in the senate. and dole loses her seat in NC, Yay and aww crap. this give nc momentum to obama. if nc goes to obama…shit cock

7:13 PM Nwxt Beer: Dundee Pale Ale I killed a fly with a wooden spoon and Obama has a NH.

7:18PM ABC calls PA fro Obama, but no other network has.

7:21 PM what the hell:

7:31 PM Fox now calls PA for Obama as well.

7:35 PM I miss Dan Ratherisms

7:40 PM ga stays with mccain…man that would have been a kick in the floppy donkey dick.

7:43 pm looks like democrats will not get a super majority in the senate.

7:46 PM Man, for the past for years, the oldman at fox, britt hume, has been amazed by technology his employer employees. omg, he just said ‘u call that thing a board? it doesnt have wood in it, does it?” ummm go and retire already

7:50 PM another Pale ale for me. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

7:52 pm conversation with conservative friend from MO.

(7:40:00 PM) Him: VA is still going good
(7:41:48 PM) Him: no good for florida
(7:41:59 PM) Him: if that goes that will seal the deal
(7:42:04 PM) Me: yes i agree
(7:42:17 PM) Me: i will then quit blogging and just start drinking

thats right…they call FL for obama, im done blogging and just gonna drink. bc its done, unless for some reason mccain wins something like CA….which will never happen.

7:57 PM right now dylan ratigan (sp?) of FAST MONEY and Maria Bartoromo(sp?) are the ones hosting at CNBC. They are pretty balanced there since it is a business channel. The fiscal conservatism displayed there is refreshing in this age of bailouts.

8:03 PM Fox News had an errorneous check mark for obama and i almost crapped a robin. But they were like ‘ah-ah-ah….just kidding”

8:05 PM Interesting take on teh current popular vote totals

8:11 PM Chris Wallace just called britt hume ‘big boy’ strangely im kinda turned on….i mean…what?

8:16 PM And another beer/

8:17 PM And another great statement by the friend in MO:

(8:10:44 PM) Him: man i hope they havn’t counted the old people vote in fl

8:19 PM Obama wins OH. Its over. Comrade Obama! AHOY

8:27 PM after going to realclearpolitics.com, if mccain wins all the states hes suppose to, plus VA, he would stgill have to flip a west coast state to win.

8:35 PM so since Obama has practically won, it is time for Conservatives to regroup. I hope this election will show those POS Liberal Republicans should just go to the Democratic party. I never understood a liberal republic. Why would you want a faux liberal when you could have a real one in a democrat?

8:45 pm Will American Capitalism survive? Or will European Socialism be our new economic system? I guess that depends on the spine of the republicans in the Senate.

On a side note. I think it is important to distinguish neo-cons between traditional conservatives.

neo-cons, which are part of the Bush Administration are not true conservatives. Neo-cons try to establish their ‘conservatiove’ agenda through the power of government which is an oxymoron. Thus, what you have seen in DC, is not conservatism, but more of a presidency.

Conservatism believes in the power of the individual. If this was a true conservative administration, we would not have had such things as No Child Left Behind, the Prescription Medicare plan, among others.

9:04 PM And Another Beer.

9:11 PM and now im afk

10:02 PM Obama is now officially declared President Elect of the USA. I am now done and going to spend time with the fiancee…peace

Mercenaries 2 DLC

October 31, 2008

This is amazing and hilarious.

The hardest thing about picking a presidential candidate is that you can’t test them first. You can’t see how they’d actually handle real presidential duties, like attempting to balance the federal budget, representing the citizenry abroad and punching out Venezuelan troops before dropping grenades in their tanks. Thankfully, you’ll get the chance to see how presidential candidate Barack Obama and VP nominee Sarah Palin will stack up as they’ll soon be added as DLC to Mercenaries 2. You can see the video right after the break.

Why no John McCain, you ask? Man, you don’t need a video game to help you imagine what John McCain would be like as a war hero! McCain doesn’t call blowing up an attacking helicopter with a rocket launcher an adventure … he calls it “Tuesday.”

XP - System Icons (My Computer, My Documents, etc.) Disappear

September 9, 2008

So apparently your windows desktop icons can just vanish. And no, i don’t mean ‘explorer.exe’ is not running like everything you search for will say. I am saying you log into your user profile and your ‘My Computer’ icon will look like this:

Easy fix:

Download Tweak UI

Select the ‘Repair’ node on the left.

Hit ‘Repair now’

Done.

Yes I will be switching OS (probably MAC) on my next computer purchase.
